Ayurveda is a system of healing originated and practiced for thousands of years and its relation to Indian philosophy is derived from the divine texts of knowledge – Vedas, originated in ancient India.‘Ayu’ means life and ‘Veda’ means to know. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means ‘The Science of Life’. Ayurveda is not only of healing the sick, but the prevention of illness and preservation of life which makes it a complete system of medicine and healthcare.
Ayurveda defines health as a state of physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing and is based on the theory of Pancha Mahabhootha, the five basic elements – earth, water, fire, air and space – and the tridoshas – vata, pita and kapha – which are present in each and every cell of the body along with mind and spirit. Ayurveda believes the enormous therapeutic potency in each and every plant in this world on their judicious use.
Kerala Ayurveda is best known for its ancient traditional roots in the ayurveda treatments through Ashtavaidya and Vaidya, that there the traditional Ayurveda Panchakarma therapy is strictly followed and practised.
